Immerse yourself in two day exploration of basketry using a variety of methods. The bark of the Western Red Cedar tree is our primary focus with other wild natural materials native to BC. Instruction is given using demonstrations, examples, books and photos. Design and weave a basket to take home. Together, we’ll celebrate the craft circle, weaving baskets with conversation. All materials including weaving tools will be provided. Bring a bag lunch.
Amy Robertson studies with a Haida weaver, Marlene Liddle, every spring during her annual trip to Haida Gwaii, after her humble beginning of trial and error with found materials. Fifteen years later, Amy incorporates a variety of techniques in her unique baskets, bottles, hats and cases, entwining function with form. Amy shows her work at the Old Schoolhouse Gallery and the Craft Store in Squirrel Cove on Cortes Island. See more work on her website.
