Curl BC has recently announced that the City of New Westminster’s Royal City Curling Club been named the Host Club for BC Junior Curling Championships.
Starting on December 27, 2016 the top eight Junior Women and eight Junior Men teams in the province, their coaches, families and fans from across the province will gather to compete and cheer at this championship tournament. Both the women’s and men’s final games will be played on January 1, 2017.
Six teams from each division earn berths by qualifying from one of four events – Kootenay Playdown (Creston), Okanagan Playdown (Osoyoos), Northern Playdown (Kitimat) and Coastal Playdown – all played November 25-27, 2016. Additionally, the two highest ranked teams from the Junior Women and Junior Men on the BC Junior Curling Tour automatically qualify to compete.
“We are excited to be hosting the Junior Provincial Championships this year. It is a significant year for the Royal City Curling Club. We are celebrating our 50th Anniversary,” says President John Shwaluk. “It is a great way to end our year of celebration – showcasing the best young curlers in BC. The Junior Provincials has sponsorship, advertising and volunteering opportunities that will allow the business community, locals and fans to be part of the action. We are looking forward to hosting a first-class event.”
The winners of this Provincial Championship will represent BC at the 2017 Canadian Junior (under 21) Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships January 21-29 in Victoria.
