Event description

The BC Assembly of First Nations has created economic development toolkits called the Black Books. These have been designed for First Nations leaders, band-owned businesses and First Nations entrepreneurs. The sessions are free for First Nations and will run from 9 AM to 4 PM. Register to secure a space for these informative sessions!

  • Prince Rupert (Location TBC) - April 7, 2020
  • Smithers (Location TBC) - April 8, 2020
  • Fort St. John (Pomeroy Hotel and Conference Centre 11308 Alaska Rd) - April 14, 2020
  • Nanaimo (Coast Bastion 11 Bastion St) - April 28, 2020

The Black Books have been developed with BC First Nations to support communities and nations in participating in economic development growth and to provide communities, at all stages of the economic development journey, with tools and resources to support their planning and overall development.

Economic development offers an avenue to meet the needs of First Nations community members by ensuring they have access to adequate food and shelter, healthcare, education, and social programming via improved incomes. Beyond these basic needs, economic development also provides a mechanism to create wealth for future generations by building equity and assets, and by growing enterprises and employment opportunities.
