Description

Located in the traditional territory of the Ts’il Kaz Koh, also known as the Burns Lake Band, the annual conference will be co-hosted by the Burns Lake, Chinook and Cheslatta Community Forests. Together they are preparing an experience for delegates that should not be missed.

CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

Thursday, May 24th
9:00-3:30 Field trip to the Burns Lake Community Forest with a focus on management approaches in the post beetle era and local special features. Presentation from Chinook Community Forest.
6:00-10:00 Opening Reception

Friday, May 25th
8:30-4:30 Sessions will provide the latest information on provincial government priorities and programs of critical importance to community forests. These will include the BC Flood and Fire Review, Rural Development, Indigenous Relations, Modernized Land Use Planning, and Funding Opportunities, This full day will also include a workshop on Skills for Community Engagement, along with Manager and Board sessions on current and emerging issues.

Lunch with Keynote Speaker, Minister of Forests, Land, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development Doug Donaldson, including the presentation of the Robin Hood Memorial Award for Excellence in Community Forestry.

6:00-10:00 BCCFA Banquet and Awards

Saturday, May 26th
8:00-2:30 The day will be begin with BCCFA AGM, followed by a special session Wildfire Science and Community Protection: Fire and Fuels Management, with Lori Daniels, Bruce Blackwell and Stephan Martineau. This dynamic and timely session will be open to the public and will put the focus on all aspects of wildfire including firescience, fuel management, Community Wildfire Protection Plans, FireSmart and community support for treatments.
These sessions will be open to the local public.

The Silent Auction will be held at the Friday night banquet. All contributions are gratefully accepted. Funds raised will go towards student sponsorships for the 2019 conference.

What are my transport options getting to the event?

Flights connect from Vancouver to Prince George (2.5 hour drive to BL) and to Smithers (1.5 hour drive to BL) We will be using the BC Community Forest Association's Facebook page to link people together. If you want a ride or can offer one from either airport, post your arrival time and your message. Let's get social networking to work for us!

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

Yes of course. Please let us know in advance, if possible, so that we make up a proper name tag and participant package.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No that is not necessary.

What is the refund policy?

A full refund, less a handling charge of $50 is available until May 17th. After May 17th there are no refunds.

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

Yes, your registration is transferrable.
