BCMA Workshop PENTICTON: Fire. Flood. Earthquake. Are you prepared?

ARE YOU PREPARED?
Fires, floods and earthquakes are a reality for many of us in BC but emergencies, like our museums and galleries, come in all sizes. This workshop will help you to identify the risks and to prepare for whatever you may encounter.
Are you a curator/manager? A member of the Board of a non-profit Society responsible for a museum, gallery or historic site? Roll up your sleeves with Royal BC Museum Manager of Risk, Security Services & Business Continuity, Bill Chimko, in a session specifically developed for small museums, galleries, historic sites and cultural centres.
To best protect and preserve our collections for future generations, it's critical to have a robust Emergency Response and Business Continuity Plan to address all forms of risk which may impact your museum, facilities or collections – and this of course must include your staff, volunteers and visitors as well!
We'll address the following in a casual and interactive way, customized for your individual needs:
1. The Risk Assessment
Learn how to conduct a risk assessment and identify your true (and sometimes unexpected!) assets and the range of possible threats to those assets. Accurately estimate likelihood of risks and impacts felt should those risks occur. Balance current mitigation and security approaches to your prioritized risks. Learn to use tools including the Risk Matrix, Risk Register, Pairwise Assessment and Annual Loss Estimation.
2. Emergency Preparedness & Business Continuity
Once you have assessed your risk profile, we will develop a comprehensive Emergency Response and Recovery Plan (or improve your own,) to safely and effectively respond should an incident occur. You will develop Critical Contact trees, prepare in advance Emergency Response Kits & supplies, identify key response personnel & equipment and create simple-to-follow plans for the event of each threat with immediate response and escalation procedures. In-depth plans will include developing Assessment teams & operations, conservation procedures, staffing & volunteer use, logistics, access, transportation, insurance considerations and Business Continuity planning.
3. Crisis Communications
We will develop a solid and reliable crisis communication plan utilizing social media, communications templates prepared in advance, and identify your critical spokesperson and key strategies.
In order to make this workshop accessible to as many as possible, we have developed the timing to accommodate long drives and ferry trips. A light lunch will be provided.

BCMA members will be asked to provide proof of membership.

What's the refund policy?
Contact us at email@example.com. If cancellation is received more than 5 business days before event date, full refund is given less any EventBrite charges. If cancelled less than 5 business days before event date, refund is not given. In this case there are two options: you can either transfer your registration to someone else (see below) or, if there is a waiting list we may be able to transfer your registration to someone on this list in which case your account will be credited less any EventBrite charges.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Can I update my registration information?
Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Your registrations can be transferred to someone else with the difference either paid or refunded. For example, if you are a Member and you transfer your registration to a Non-Member, the $20 difference would need to be paid in order for the transfer to be valid. Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?
