The BCVTA is excited to welcome Liz Hughston MEd.,RVT, CVT, VTS (SAIM, ECC), VetTechXpert, Co-Founder Veterinary Cannabis Academy, Past President and Webmaster for the Academy of Internal Medicine for Veterinary Technicians and Communications Director for the National Veterinary Professionals Union.

Our focus for this day will be on Internal Medicine Nursing and Emergency/Critical Care with topics such as:

Kirby's Rule of 20 - Every Patient Every Time; if you are tasked with taking care of patients on a regular basis at your clinic of hospital, this is for you! 20 simple stepscan help you organize and deliver excellent patient care every day.

The Nursing Process - The best nurses are those who are able to think critically and apply their knowledge to a variety of different patients and illnesses. This talk will outline the nursing process; an applied discipline involving both art and science, and how veterinary professionals can apply it in the animal care setting.

Family Presence in Emergency/Critical Care - the Open Practice Theory recognizes the importance of the human-animal bond by allowing patients and clients to remain together through every step of their veterinary visit. This improved communication helps the client feel valued as a memebre of the patient care team - leading to a more engaged client, happier client, better review and increased revenue.

Fluid Therapy for Technicians - this presentation will review the basics of fluid therapy, as well as the different fluids currently available and how fluids can be used to benefit patients suffering from specific disease.

Analyzing Acid Base Status - attendees will learn the simple approach to analyzing acid-base that will lead to fast identification of acid-base disorders, as well as discussing basic treatment of acid-base derangements.

CRI's in Clinical Practice - This talk will be designed to give technicians the guidance on making and delivering some of the common CRIs in practice such as: lidocaine, fentanyl, metoclopramide, dextrose, insulin and others.

Our general meeting will be held during the lunch break.
