Event description

Description

Victim Services of Middlesex-London and the Middlesex Rural Alliance to End Violence Against Women are proud to be hosting an event to commemorate Victims and Survivors of Crime Week in our community. Our annual ‘Be the Change’ will be an inspirational breakfast and will take place on Thursday, May 31 from 7:00am to 9:30am at Caradoc Sands Golf Club in Strathroy. Please join us to raise awareness and engage our community, schools and youth to start the discussion and develop a commitment to ending gender based violence.

The theme for this years’ Victims and Survivors of Crime Week is "Transforming the Culture Together". This week is about raising awareness on issues facing victims and survivors of crime and the services, programs, and laws in place to help them and their families.

We want to celebrate the youth in our community who have the courage not to stand by but to speak up - because they know it is the right thing to do. We believe that young people have a very important part in making our schools and communities safer, more respectful, tolerant and more caring places in which to learn, work, play and live. At this event, we recognize 10 students from the Middlesex community and share their stories of how they are making an effort to “Be the Change”.

Our keynote speaker is Jeff Perera. Jeff has been speaking on healthy versus toxic masculinity, and men helping end gender-based violence for over six years to tens of thousands of people across Canada. Jeff has delivered engaging talks with elementary, high school, and post-secondary students as well as people in various organizations about what it means to be a man today and how society’s ideas of masculinity impact people of all genders. Jeff inspires men and young men to work towards change and ‘be the lesson in action’. For more information on Jeff Perera, visit https://www.nsb.com/speakers/jeff-perera/

Students that purchase (Student Admission) tickets will be reimbursed at the door. You can also visit our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Be-the-Change-820415601369252/ for more information and photos/videos from last year’s event.
