GOING TO COURT & SELF-REPRESENTATION - 9:00 A.M. – NOON

What people need to know about the court process once they’ve been charged, available resources and considerations made in respect to Aboriginal culture. The workshop is accompanied by BLERC’s “Going To Court” pamphlet and “Fighting Chance” video.

Self-Representation In Court – representing yourself in court, by choice or circumstance, is overwhelming at the best of times. This workshop will guide you through the court and trial process and provide resources available to assist you. We will also be doing a scripted role-play.

UNDERSTANDING ABORIGINAL IDENTITY - 1:00 – 4:00 P.M.

What does it mean to be Aboriginal today? How and why were the Treaties formed and are they still valid today? What legislations direct Aboriginal rights? Can you challenge Inherent Rights and, if so, how? This workshop will highlight major historical events since European contact that have had major impacts on Canada’s Aboriginal Peoples. Accompanied by a video and brochure.
