Event description

Description

BEAT welcomes you to join in on a conversation with AKB and architect Kelly Buffey.

Kelly Buffey co-founded the award-winning architecture practice, Atelier Kastelic Buffey, with partner Robert Kastelic, in 2004, where she drives the vision of the studio, conceptualizing the work with a distinct clarity for which AKB has become recognized. Kelly approaches architecture with an ideology of thoughtful integrity. She sees architecture as an act of profound responsibility and an opportunity for optimism. She believes that our experience of architecture has the potential to provide grace, dignity, joy and reflection in life, and, that this is important. With a discerning focus on the poetics of space, Kelly strives to harmonize the emotive with the intellectual to create buildings that transcend both form and function.

Kelly received a Master in Architecture degree from the University of Toronto for which she was distinguished with the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada Honour Roll and the Toronto Architectural Guild Medal. She also received a highly awarded Bachelor of Applied Arts in Interior Design from Ryerson Polytechnic University and a Bachelor of Arts from Queen's University.

The studio of Atelier Kastelic Buffey is dedicated to the practice and art of building. The quest to capture the ineffable qualities of space manifests in AKB’s design process, which prioritizes a clarity of vision, attention to detail, and a rigorous commitment to conceptual intent. The work benefits from the partners’ extensive training in both architecture and interior design; a comprehensive strategy results in buildings of exceptional resolution and an uncommon level of refinement. Compelling in their tranquility and quiet simplicity, AKB’s buildings are warmly engaging, elegant and functional. Meticulous research, precedent studies and the deployment of current sustainability strategies enable the studio to fuse the practical and the abstract in an architecture that is inspired and enduring.

Doors open at 6:15pm for mingling and refreshments. Grab your tickets early as these are popular events!
