Event Details

Over the past decade, many U.S. – and a few Canadian – healthcare organizations have implemented Epic, an integrated suite of healthcare software that supports patient registration and scheduling, and clinical and billing systems.

Although many organizations have reaped considerable benefits from their implementations, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing, and as with any major healthcare transformation, there have been many lessons learned along the way. Join two U.S. CIOs - Louis Capponi, VP and CMIO at Colorado-based SCL Health and Dennis Loftus, Senior VP and CIO at Virginia-based Riverside Health System - along with Sarah Muttitt, CIO and VP of IMT, Sick Kids Toronto, and Diane Salois-Swallow, Senior Advisor to Toronto's Mackenzie Innovation Institute (and former CIO of Mackenzie Health), for an engaging and informative discussion on the challenges and opportunities of implementing Epic.

You will learn strategies to maximize clinical information system investments and how to apply some of the lessons others have learned along the way.

Louis Capponi is VP and CMIO at SCL Health (Colorado). Louis is a General Internist with 20 years of medical leadership experience including 15 as a CMIO.

Dennis Loftus is Senior VP and CIO at Riverside Health System in Virginia. Dennis has been with Riverside since 1992 and has a background in healthcare and other industries.

Sarah Muttitt is CIO and VP of IMT, Sick Kids (Toronto). Sarah has more than 25 years of Canadian and international healthcare experience and has led large-scale healthcare transformation and information technology initiatives both in Canada and in the Asia region.

Diane Salois-Swallow is Senior Advisor to the Mackenzie Innovation Institute Mi2 and was previously Chief Information Officer of Mackenzie Health in Toronto. In 2017, Mackenzie Health was the first hospital in Canada to implement an Epic full suite EMR. In 2016, Diane was appointed Co-Chair of an expert provincial panel to develop evidence-based guidelines on integrating digital technology into professional practice at hospitals and other healthcare organizations.
