Description

. Becoming trauma and violence informed expands beyond trauma-informed care to include the intersecting effects of systemic and interpersonal violence.

The Huron Domestic Assault Response Team (DART), Poverty to Prosperity and Huron County Health Unit are hosting trauma and violence informed workshops in November to provide three opportunities for professionals.

Overview of the Trauma and Violence Informed Care (TVIC) three hour workshop:

• Overview of working definitions and identifying characteristics of trauma and violence

• Structural and systemic violence and how it affects vulnerable populations

• How TVIC aligns within an equity framework

• How trauma and violence impact child and adult development and well being

• Neurobiology, health and mental health affects of trauma and violence

• Consideration for those who experience additional marginalization ie; homelessness, substance use, gender, LGBT+, Indigenous and refugee communities

• Examining trauma and violence within the context of rural communities

• How trauma relates to grief and loss

• Strategies for working with challenging aspects of trauma

• Information/ resources re: compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma for direct service providers

• How a TVIC approach can inform and support the work of a team, program or service
