Bee School For Kids: Young Leaders Program
Sessions: July 4, 6, 8 @ 10:00AM-1:00PM
Bee-coming Leaders: A Bee School For Kids is back for its FOURTH year in a row!
Beekeeper Markus Storhas and The World In A Garden Founder & Holistic Nutritionist Tricia Sedgwick are teaming up to help kids bee leaders in their community. This 3-part workshop series is hosted at The World In A Garden, and provides fun, hands-on learning opportunities for youth to explore the world of honeybees and native pollinators.
NEW! This year we are excited to present a Young Leaders Program for youth ages 11-14 who want to experience leadership at the next level. We are accepting up to 10 youths who will receive mentoring from local bee experts, and help us develop an educational Bee Kit.
During the mentorship program youth will learn about the important role pollinators play in our ecosystem and food system, and gain the knowledge and tools needed to help encourage pollinator health.
Each session will include hands-on activities, citizen science observation, crafts, and development of the Bee Kit. The kit is a reflection of what the youth have learned, and will contain pollinator information, practical resources and flower seeds that the youth will use to educate others and encourage pollinators in the city.
Upon completion of the program, each Camp Counsellor will receive a certficate, Bee Kit, volunteer hours and a token of thanks that will help them continue to grow their knowledge as environmental leaders. They can also receive a reference if requested.
During the camp, participants will be provided with snacks, protective equipment and writing material. We ask that the youth provide their own water bottle, lunch, sunscreen, hat and appropriate clothing (close-toed shoes, long sleeves) to interact with the hives and pollinators.
On July 4th, please arrive at 9:30am to sign in.
The Bee School Young Leaders Program is supported by Vancouver Foundation and the Neighbourhood Small Grants.
