Beekeeping 101
Event Information
Description
About the workshop:
An intro to Beekeeping. What is involved with starting beekeeping and the regulations for keeping bees in the city. We will also ID some native bees. (Note: while the workshop will begin at The Mustard Seed, we will walk approximately 5 minutes south of the Co-op to the Victoria Park Pollinator Garden for the majority of the workshop.) Participants will have a chance to taste Humble Bee's honey during the workshop and you purchase a bottle afterward at the Co-op!
About the instructor:
Luc Peters is one of the beekeepers from Humble Bee. Humble Bee are primarily urban beekeepers, with half a dozen apiaries in the Hamilton area, including on the rooftop of The Mustard Seed! They focus on urban honey production, breeding and sales of queen bees and nucleus colonies, and educating beekeepers and the general public.
About Mustard Seed Workshops:
Tickets are sold online only on a first-come basis. Because of the keen interest of beekeeping, we are offering registration for both individuals and households. Kids are also welcome as part of a household ticket.
**NOTE: PLEASE BRING A CHAIR OR BLANKET TO SIT ON FOR THE WORKSHOP, AND WATER!**
Please arrive ahead of the workshop start time to sign in - registration will be outside in the co-op parking lot. If (hopefully not!) there are less than 5 registrants three days before the workshop, we may need to cancel and will refund costs. Please email workshops@mustardseed.coop with any other questions.
