Join graduate students and gifted instructor Dr. Daniel Driver as we read, hear, and even produce Hebrew. This program offers a textually immersive introduction to classical Hebrew. Grammatical features like morphology, phonology, and syntax are learned inductively, through a cycle of illustrated readings drawn from Genesis. Techniques of second-language acquisition are also used to help develop language competency. This program is open to the public; there are no prerequisites to participate.

Days & Times: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am – 12:00 (exceptions: June 13th only: 1:30-4:30 pm)

Requirements: Attendance; readings; no assignments to submit

Books to purchase: Learning Biblical Hebrew: Reading for Comprehension: An Introductory Grammar (Karl V. Kutz and Rebekah Josberger); AND Learning Biblical Hebrew Workbook: A Graded Reader with Exercises (Karl V. Kutz and Rebekah Josberger)

Purchasing recommendations: The grammar and workbook can be bought as a bundle (2 vols) directly from the publisher at < https://lexhampress.com/product/177582/learning-biblical-hebrew-bundle >. It is also possible to buy a digital copy of the text and workbook, if you don’t mind reading on a screen. However, the implementation of the ebook bundle is far from perfect. Since writing is essential, Dr. Driver suggests you get a paper copy of the workbook at least, and the grammar if possible.

Fee: $250.00 to attend first week only (June 13-17) or $250.00 for both weeks (June 13-17 and 20-24)

Format: In person, on-campus only. No online access.
