Event description

Description

Belonging: Exploring healthcare needs of New Canadians through theatre will present short interactive, Forum Theatre plays created and performed by people from the recent immigrant community experiencing barriers to accessing healthcare in Edmonton, facilitated by internationally acclaimed theatre director, David Diamond (Theatre for Living, Vancouver, BC). A “scribe” will be present to gather grassroots suggestions to make access easier and more effective. (The event may also be videorecorded to create an enduring educational resource). Light snacks will be provided.

Aware of the many language and cultural barriers that can impede healthcare access and patient-centred communication, this project was initiated by Genie Kwon, a second-year medical student at the University of Alberta, and member of the AHHM Student Committee (Medical Student Association).
