Thank you for joining us in making a difference to our community! Join the Grand River Conservation Authority, our local Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup Site Coordinator and community volunteers to clean the lake shore. The Belwood Bridge is the only bridge on Belwood Lake (Wellington Rd. 26). The area is used by many swimmers, boaters and anglers. It also provides habitat for birds and fish. After the summer, garbage and fishing equipment is often forgotten about. We will take advantage of the low water levels to clean up the shoreline and tally our results.
This event is open to those who enjoy the outdoors and accomplishing something meaningful. It is suitable for high school students (please bring your volunteer forms).
What are my parking options at the event?
Parking will be at the boat launch accessible via 7 George St. in Belwood (Centre Wellington) or along the street. Gates to the boat launch will be locked after the event conclusion.
Driveway is across from the convenience store and directly beside the SuperSnax.
What should I bring to the event?
- Wear closed-toed shoes (a requirement). Rubber boots may be necessary if it has been raining.
- Work gloves (durable canvas or leather is best).
- Dress for the weather. We find layers are best (e.g. jacket, fleece, hat etc.)
- Bright colours or reflective vest are helpful
- Snacks/water bottle and/or hot drink
Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Amanda Stornebrink, Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup Site Coordinator (email@example.com)
Bronwen Buck, GRCA Volunteer Program Coordinator (firstname.lastname@example.org)
In the event of a cancellation, we will try to contact all registrants via e-mail.
Who can attend?
This event is open to all ages. However, all minors must be accompanied by an adult. Youth ages 13-17 may attend unaccompanied provided their parent/guardian has completed an agreement/waiver allowing them to participate.
The terrain is fairly flat, but the footing is very uneven and will require you to navigate through rocky areas and possibly mud.
Safety and Facilities
Your safety is a priority! Upon arrival, we will provide you with an orientation, review emergency procedures and deliver a safety talk. You will also be required to sign a waiver.
A pit toilet is available near the parking area.
