Beneficiary Blow Ups
Tue, 18 April 2017, 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM EDT
Ben·e·fi·ci·ar·y (ben-'fiSHe-e-re) noun
a person who derives advantage from something, especially a trust, will, or life insurance policy. Whether by will or intestate, the beneficiaries are those persons to whom, ultimately the property is going after death.
Since you can't take your money with you at the end of your life, naming a beneficiary, for the accounts that permit it, means the person you want to leave it to ~ should ~ receive it, however litigation in the field of beneficiary designations is on the rise. The main reason for this, is the significant value of assets that can pass by this designation. In Ontario and depending on the asset, the designation of a beneficiary and it's revocation may be further governed or impacted upon in various ways by the Insurance Act; Succession Law Reform Act; Provincial or Federal Statutes governing pensions and particular terms of a given policy or plan.
You, your Spouse or Common Law Spouse, your Powers of Attorney, your Estate Trustee (Executor),
interested Family Member(s) or Guest are cordially invited to attend:
