Event description

Description

Our theme this season is Making the Link: Financial Sustainability and Measuring Outcomes.

In our March session, we explored the current private drug plan claims pooling and risk-sharing landscape, with particular emphasis on the EP3 and industry pooling for fully insured groups and large amount pooling for groups on retention or ASO accounting. Some of the primary themes included rising pooling costs and how some plan sponsors are responding, potential alternatives to current pooling approaches, and the need for more insurer transparency.

Despite the current industry focus on high cost/ specialty medications, we know that other factors are contributing to rising benefit costs. Chronic diseases, which can lead to high prescription drug utilization and ultimately disability, are also putting considerable pressure on plan costs, and affect far more plan members. This is particularly true for conditions such as Type II diabetes, mental health issues, and more recently cancer.

If you are managing or insuring a benefit plan, or providing advice in this space, you will want to join us as we explore the financial link between investing in chronic disease management and managing or preventing disability with our industry experts.

Judith Glennie, BScPhm., Pharm D., MSc, President, J.L. Glennie Consulting Inc.

Judith will speak to the benefits of taking a patient-centric approach in diabetes care and access to medications.

Lianne Clarke, EC – CEP, Senior Consultant, Group Benefits, Williamson Group, A Cowan Company

Lianne will discuss how disease management practises alongside drug therapies improve health outcomes for those with a chronic disease.

Norma Crouse, AVP of Group Claims and Administration at Equitable Life

Norma will address the role chronic disease management plays in preventing disabilities, disability management and return to work.
