Event description

Description

The Black Health Alliance (BHA) hosts its 3rd Annual Forum on Black Health.

Beyond A Sound Mind: Building a Black Health & Well-being Strategy will attract professionals from the medical and social services field, government agencies, community organizations and members of the community.

Black communities face disproportionately low outcomes across the social determinants of health and indicators of well-being. The forum aims to identify priority focus areas, outline initial suggested strategies, and build alignment with new and ongoing initiatives.

The BHA believes that a targeted strategy focused on improving outcomes for Black communities across the social determinants of health and indicators of well-being can facilitate community based action, cross-sector collaboration, systems intervention, and investment necessary to improve the health and well-being of Black communities across the province by working together. The recently passed Anti-Racism Act; Ontario Anti-Racism Strategic Plan; City of Toronto Anti-Black Racism Strategy and the International Decade for People of African Descent make this the time to build sustainable and meaningful action.

THE FORUM WILL INCLUDE:

Community Capacity and Connectedness Roundtable Discussion facilitated by a panel of community leaders and organization representatives

My Life, My Story personal experience presentations by community members and leaders including Jean Augustine, Former Ontario Fairness Commissioner and Member of Parliament

Health & Wellness Marketplace

CONCURRENT FACILITATED SESSIONS
Poverty, Housing, Food Insecurity: Denise Brooks, Executive Director Hamilton Urban Core CHC
HIV and AIDS: Winston Husbands, Senior Scientist Ontario HIV Treatment Network
Mental Health: Kwame McKenzie, Wellesley Institute and CAMH
Youth Perspectives: Asante Haughton, Youth Case Worker, Pathways to Education

We look forward to your support and attendance at this year’s forum.
