Event description
In August, bike the Pitt Meadows dike, learn about the natural and built environment, take pictures and win prizes!

About this event

After a one year hiatus, we are back with the 5th annual bike tour from Watershed Watch Salmon Society and HUB Cycling Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows with support from Metro Vancouver Parks! In this (soon to be post) pandemic-era, we are switching things up a little and hosting a self-guided bike tour.

From August 1 - 31, explore the easy to ride and scenic Pitt Meadows dike with family and friends! We've created a handy map with a number of points of interest so you can learn about the area as you bike the dike. It's a great way to experience nature and you might be surprised at what you see along the way.

We are excited to have an official ice cream provider for the event, Sweet Tooth Creamery at Osprey Village! They are offering 20% off one scoop and two scoops. Show them your Bike the Dike map to receive the discount.

Our official snack stop is Stomping Grounds Café & Bistro who will be offering a discount for participants. Simply show them the map or Eventbrite registration to receive your 10% discount.

While on your adventure, snap some pics of yourself and your group and post them to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter and use the hashtag #bikethedikepittmeadows for a chance to win some awesome prizes!

Here's how to join the fun:

1. Register for the event on Eventbrite so we can email you the Self-Guided Tour Map and any safety updates. We're just finishing up the route map and will email them to all registered attendees by July 30.

2. This is really important: Click the link in your registration email to send a thank you note to the City of Pitt Meadows for upgrading their Pitt Polder Pump Station to be safe for fish passage. As you bike the dike you’ll see how important it is to keep the city safe from rising flood waters. It is just as important to ensure fish can access much needed habitat behind dikes and support continuation of salmon and other species. The City rarely gets positive feedback so this is a great time to flood them with emails about how happy we are when they supported fish-friendly flood control and healthy waterways in the community!

3. Invite family and friends to join for a fun outing and increase the chance of winning a prize

4. Familiarize yourself with the bike route map and plan your adventure. Be sure to be bike safe and make sure to pack out anything you pack in and leave no trace.

5. Don’t forget to stop by Sweet Tooth Creamery for discounts on ice cream. Simply show them the Bike the Dike map to receive 20% off one and two scoops and support our local businesses! Offer only valid August 1 - 31, 2021.

6. When you complete the bike tour, snap a fun picture of your group and send it to engagement@watershedwatch.ca for a chance to win awesome prizes from local businesses! For an extra entry, also post your pics to social media with the hashtag #bikethedikepittmeadows

7. While you wait for the prize announcements at the end of August, sit back and marvel at the beauty and dynamism of this special watershed and all the ways we can live with nature.

This tour will take place on unceded Katzie territory. Over the past many years Watershed Watch has built a relationship of respect and shared values for this region with representatives and staff of the Katzie Nation as we work to restore and reconnect local waterways impacted by flood control structures.
