Event Details

Williams HR Law and The Career Foundation are partnering to deliver an employer-specific workshop to help small, medium and large business owners comply with changes to Ontario’s Employment and Labour Laws. The workshop will focus on legislative changes that will create more opportunity and security for workers across Ontario.

You’ve likely heard by now that Ontario will be undergoing significant changes to its Employment and Labour Laws in early 2018.  Bill 148 (The Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017) outlines a number of key amendments to the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (the “ESA”) and the Labour Relations Act (the “LRA”) related to equal pay provisions, minimum wage increases, leaves of absence, union certification, and beyond.

Do you know what these proposed changes mean for your organization?  Would you benefit from learning about your obligations as an employer, and how you can ensure compliance with the amendments to the ESA and LRA?  We have the solution for you!

We’ve listened to employer requests and feedback at our employer networking events, and identified “improved access to HR Law information” as a key area of interest to employers. Accordingly, on February 6, 2018, The Career Foundation will be partnering with highly regarded management-side employment and labour law firm, Williams HR Law, to lead a workshop on everything you need to know about Bill 148!

Workshop Description:

Major changes are coming to Ontario’s workplaces by January 1, 2018, with the Ontario government’s push to pass Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017. Although most of the media coverage has focused on the substantial increase to the minimum wage, Bill 148 (which recently received Royal Asssent) will make wide-ranging amendments to employee rights and employer obligations under the Employment Standards Act, 2000 and Labour Relations Act, 1995. Through a presentation conducted by Williams HR Law, you'll get the chance to review the amendments contained in Bill 148 as well as the implications of these changes for your workplace.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the legislative amendments
  • Learn about new obligations and what they will mean for your business
  • Identify strategies for adhering to the new statutory obligations while continuing to effectively manage your workforce.
