Description

Creating Biotech startups: Why scientists should take the leap?

Unlike in the past, scientific researchers have now the opportunity to make a bigger impact in the world.

With the current changing world, creating successful biotech and life-science startups is becoming more relevant than ever. The role of universities, as well as the support organizations and financial institutions in helping launch sustainable and impactful startups tackling real and meaningful challenges is becoming an imperative. How can we all do that as a society?

We will also be answering questions such as: Is entrepreneurship a viable career path for biotech researchers? How could becoming an entrepreneur help scientific researchers help improve the lives of many? Is entrepreneurship something a researcher could potential enjoy and be passioned about it? Is it possible to pursue a Ph.D. while at the same time exploring business ideas for a startup?

Join us to hear Mahzad Sharifahmadian, Life Sciences Manager at District 3 & the mind behind the Quebec Scientific Entrepreneurship (QcSE) talking about the Biotech industry; in particular how genomics & engineering biology is shaping future of health & agrifood. She will also talk about why scientists should consider entrepreneurship, not as an alternative but as a mainstream career path. Finally, she will end sharing her experience in working with scientists, walking with them through commercialization journey, risks, failures & success stories.

NB Dans un soucis de vouloir connecter et se rapprocher des différentes communautés tech et les incubateurs d’innovation universitaire de la région MRC, exceptionnellement, cette conférence sera principalement en anglais.
