Event description
Discover the importance of birch bark to early Indigenous people as you paddle the York River, then craft your own mini birch bark canoe.

About this Event

Start your day with a three-hour Algonquin-themed guided canoe trip with Waaseyaa Cultural Tours along the Yorth River with all gear supplied. After a morning of canoeing you will be ready for a hearty lunch at the Wattle & Daub Cafe in Bancroft, a unique straw bale building nestled next to the river. Afterwards you will only need to take a few steps to be treated to a guided visit to the newly renovated Bancroft North Hastngs Heritage Museum. Then it is time to create your own momento from your day by building a miniature birch bark canoe under the direction of Algonquin Master Craftsperson, Chuck Commanda, a great way to remember your Bimaawadasso: Adventure in Birch Bark!
