Event description

Description

The Northumberland Strait Coastal Restoration Project invites you to join our first volunteer event, “Bioblitz at the Saltmarsh”, on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at the Amherst Shore Provincial Park. It will be a chance for community members of all ages to get into a saltmarsh and learn about the diversity of species found there.

To inventory the species found, smart phone users can download the iNaturalist app, or you can bring your own camera and interpretative volunteers will be on hand to assist you in identifying and cataloguing plants, animals and insects that you find. Interpretative volunteers will also teach you about features of the saltmarsh as you move along the trail and enter the marsh. After the bioblitz, we encourage you to spend the afternoon on site and enjoy the features of the park, including the trail along the saltmarsh that ends at the beach!

This exciting event is held in partnership with the Nova Scotia Nature Trust in celebration of National Estuaries Week.

Wear footwear appropriate for walking in a saltmarsh, such as rubber boots, and dress for the weather. In the event of inclement weather, such as a thunderstorm, the bioblitz will be rescheduled to Saturday, September 29th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm (please note the time change to accommodate the tides) - if this happens, we will announce it through Clean Foundation’s social media (@CleanFoundation on twitter, Facebook, and Instagram).

Please bring a water bottle with you. Lunch will be provided.

For more information, please contact Charlynne Robertson at crobertson@clean.ns.ca
