Learn how to paint lifelike birds with brushwork & color techniques for a fantastic start to the new year!

Join us for this 4-part workshop series and dive deep into the world of bird painting at the wonderful Goldfinch Arts Centre by the Esquimalt Lagoon Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Colwood!

In this engaging painting workshop you’ll gain the skills and confidence to create lifelike bird paintings. This workshop is designed for artists of all levels, focusing on essential brushwork, edge control, and color techniques to bring your avian subjects to life.

Over the course of this workshop, we'll dive deep into the world of bird painting, dedicating each week to a different species. You’ll learn how to capture the essence of each bird through detailed study and practice. Rose will be demonstrating with oil paints but acyrlic painters are welcome.

The fee of $​160 per person includes your admission to ALL FOUR CLASSES in this workshop series​ over consecutive weeks​ on the following dates:

  • Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 9am-11:30am
  • Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 9am-11:30am
  • Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 9am-11:30am
  • Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 9am-11:30am

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Rose Tanner, AFCA, is an award-winning artist who loves the outdoors and studying birds. She is dedicated to portraying her subjects using traditional oil painting techniques. She believes it’s her attention to their inner being that give’s them their lifelike quality in her paintings. She travels widely for her subjects and is active in supporting endangered birds and their habitat.

She has worked in museums, galleries, and with various national and international shows. She is passionate about painting and inspiring people to find their own creative voice.

As a Juror, Art Teacher and Certified Life Coach, she enjoys sharing the color mixing and painting systems she has developed over time to help hundreds of artists become the artists they always dreamed.

CLASS LOCATION

This workshop series is hosted by the Arts & Culture Colwood Society at the Goldfinch Arts Centre, a bright & modern gallery space that looks out to the Esquimalt Lagoon and the Colwood Waterfront beyond, where you will be surrounded by original artwork by local artists in an exhibition called Out of the Ordinary, which runs from January 8th through February 1st.
