Event description

Description

Over 2 weekends (Jan 17-19 and Jan 31/Feb 1,2) you will carve, texture and paint a life-size Mountain Bluebird. You will learn how to mount the carving on a weathered fencepost base (base can be supplied or you may wish to bring or make your own).
On weekend #1 you will carve the bird and begin burning feather texture. You will also install cast feet and mount the bird on its base. There likely won't be enough time to complete all of the feather texture in class, so most participants will take their bird home to complete the feather texturing (loan of woodburners can be arranged for those who don't have one).
Weekend #2 you'll bring your textured carving to class. We will seal it Friday evening and paint it Saturday and Sunday. You should be able to leave with a fully finished carving. This class is for carvers of any experience level - whether you've never carved a bird before or you’re an expert carver, you will find this an enjoyable and challenging project. Cam works with each individual student based on their experience and abilities. When the class is finished you'll have a beautiful carving that you'll be proud to display! And you will also have learned many new skills.
The Razertip classroom is a fully-equipped facility where each workstation has all the top-quality tools and equipment needed to complete your project. Even if you have tools of your own, you won't need to bring them (unless you really want to).
Workshop hours are Friday evening 7-9pm and 9-5:30 Saturday and Sunday. There will be a 45-minute break for lunch - participants can bring a bag lunch or there are several fast-food options in Martensville (A&W, McDonalds, Subway, Tim Horton's, DQ, Taco Time, etc.) if you prefer. Coffee and tea will be provided, but please bring your own mug.
A fee of $275.00 includes everything - a bandsawn blank, glass eyes, study notes, pattern, paint, and any other tools and supplies as needed (also includes all applicable taxes). All you need to bring is a desire to carve your bird!
