About this event

--Bird Photography: Photographing the Fall Migration--

In this free introduction to bird photography, wildlife photographer Walter Potrebka will show you how to take fantastic photos of feathered friends that you’ll be proud to share.

The fall migration in late August and September is the perfect time to get outdoors and capture the flight of Manitoba’s songbirds.

“The annual migration is an incredible spectacle, one that everyone should have the opportunity to experience first hand. It can serve to remind us how resilient nature can be and, at the same time, help remind us of our visceral connection with the planet.” - FortWhyte Alive

Walter will discuss camera techniques and equipment for capturing birds, the ethics of bird photography, editing tips and tricks and more.

About the speaker:

Walter Potrebka is a nature and wildlife photographer who specializes in bird photography. His work has been featured in the Winnipeg Free Press and has been used in mediums including fine art prints, advertising and even corporate reports.

He has spoken about bird photography on CBC Radio Canada and was a winner of the 2021 CPAWS Manitoba photography contest. When we can finally get together again he will once again be leading bird photography seminars and tours for species such as the Great Gray Owl and the Snowy Owl.

Most recently, Walter's image of a female Red-Winged Blackbird was chosen for the top 100 in the 2021 Audubon Society's Bird Photography Contest.

--Lunch and Learns--

Nature has been here for us during the pandemic.

CPAWS Manitoba wants to maintain this positive connection to nature by providing a space for Manitobans to connect online from the safety of our homes and be inspired by nature in our backyards and beyond.

Join CPAWS Manitoba for weekly lunch and learn presentations from experts across the province who will share their knowledge and passion and bring new nature-inspired activities into our lives.

*** This program is possible thanks to the generous support of The Winnipeg Foundation and the Conservation Trust, a Manitoba Climate and Green Plan Initiative delivered by the Manitoba Habitat Heritage Corporation. ***
