We have partnered with business and art centres across Ontario to deliver the Biz Smarts webinars. By visiting one of our partnering centres you will receive additional resources and information that will not be covered in the webinars as well as the chance to network and exchange ideas with peers and experts.

This webinar will cover a number of easy to learn and easy to apply concepts and methods to help you manage your money better. The first section will provide a short review of some of the fundamentals of financial management. The second section will apply these basic teachings to the lived reality of the self-employed, freelancers or solopreneurs. The final section will present an easy to make excel spreadsheet to help artists keep track of and manage their financial resources.

As such, the webinar will include:

  • A Review of Some Basic Concepts of Financial Management;
  • An overview of Several Best Practices of Financial Management that Apply to Everyone;
  • An explanation of some Financial Management Best Practices that target Artists; and,
  • A Step-By-Step Method to Build an Easy but Helpful Excel Spreadsheet to help Artists Manage their Money.

Patrick Tomlinson is a management consultant based in Toronto. He has over fifteen years’ experience helping clients in the not-for-profit, profit, and public sectors. He has proudly jigged for cod in the North Atlantic, harvested mussels on the low tide beaches of the Bay of Fundy, eaten a traditional tourtiere in the woods of Lac St. Jean, and most recently, spent many nights gazing-up at the dancing lights of the Aurora Borealis. Patrick also has a passion for film photography. His work has exhibited in galleries across Canada and in Japan.


How can I participate in the webinars?

You can participate in the webinars by attending a webinar event at your local art/business centre. You will receive an e-mail with the address of the centre in your city once you have RSVPd.

What should I expect by attending my local art/business centre?

The centres will provide an opportunity for you to network, to meet business counselors/coaches, receive additonal resources, and have further questions answered. It is also an opportunity to actively begin your business planning process.
