About this Event

Are you a Black Woman in Toronto wanting to meet new people and create new networks?

Black Women Connect! Book Club is a Toronto-based book and social club that focuses on celebrating Black Literature, Sisterhood and the love of reading. Our mission is to bring Black Women together who love to read fiction and nonfiction books written by writers of African descent for meaningful conversations, connections and socialization. Each month we choose a book and use it as the foundation to discuss our own lives as black women – we, read, discuss, listen, reflect, renew, and yes, drink & eat! BWC purpose is to inform, empower, inspire, and enrich each member's life through the privilege of reading and connecting with each other.

Black Women Connect is for Black Women in Toronto who are looking to make new friends and connect. In addition to our core book club, other activities include special members only brunches, thematic events, retreats, drinks and dinners and other social engagement.

October Book :It's Not All Downhill from Here by Terry McMillan

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • After a sudden change of plans, a remarkable woman and her loyal group of friends try to figure out what she’s going to do with the rest of her life—from Terry McMillan, the bestselling author of How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Waiting to Exhale

“McMillan brings her signature wit and wisdom to It’s Not All Downhill From Here.”—O: The Oprah Magazine

Loretha Curry’s life is full. A little crowded sometimes, but full indeed. On the eve of her sixty-eighth birthday, she has a booming beauty-supply empire, a gaggle of lifelong friends, and a husband whose moves still surprise. True, she’s carrying a few more pounds than she should be, but Loretha is not one of those women who think her best days are behind her—and she’s determined to prove wrong her mother, her twin sister, and everyone else with that outdated view of aging wrong. It’s not all downhill from here.

But when an unexpected loss turns her world upside down, Loretha will have to summon all her strength, resourcefulness, and determination to keep on thriving, pursue joy, heal old wounds, and chart new paths. With a little help from her friends, of course.

All new members must RSVP and join our group on Facebook and bring a food or drink item to the book club meetings.
