Event description
A middle-aged journalist meets with a young woman in an upscale Leeds hotel room whilr war approaches outside.

About this event

Violence begets in Blasted by Sarah Kane. Post Productions is honoured to present this brilliant, intense, brutally beautiful, and subtle play – one of the most controversial and influential scripts of the 20th century – for Windsor-Essex audiences. In Blasted, Ian, a middle-aged journalist, arranges a rendezvous in an upscale Leeds hotel room with Cate, a young woman with whom Ian hopes to rekindle a relationship that ended several years before. Outside their room, war is coming with an unseen and unspecified enemy. Unseen, that is, until a soldier arrives and the hotel room, and our assumptions about what’s going on, are blown to pieces.

Although frequently produced in continental Europe, Blasted is rarely staged in the English-speaking world. Post Productions is one of only four theatre companies to bring it to Canada. See it while you can; you may never get another chance.

WARNING: This play is not suitable for children. It contains mature themes, nudity, offensive language, and acts of physical, sexual, and psychological violence.

NOTE: Post Productions and The Shadowbox Theatre now require all patrons, cast, crew, and volunteers to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Patrons will be required to present proof of their vaccination status at the MNSI Box Office upon arrival. Patrons must also be masked at all times while inside The Shadowbox Theatre. Organizer of Blasted by Sarah Kane

Post Productions provides intimately-staged entertaining theatrical experiences that arouse the heart and fuel the mind, drawing patrons into lives quite unlike their own to help them understand the world, other people, and themselves with fresh insight. As a unique brand of theatre, Post Productions complements the Windsor-Essex scene by staging provocative productions for audiences that want more for their dollar: post-theatre, post-art, post-entertainment.

We commit to:
1. Hold auditions only for roles that have not been pre-cast

2. Treat every member of the cast, crew and audience as free agents with dignity and respect

3. Conduct all business affairs with honesty and integrity

4. Collaborate with other artists in Windsor-Essex to mutual benefit whenever possible

5. Focus on character and story over all other aspects of theatre

6. Cast only the best local acting talent

7. Contribute to a vibrant, thriving and diverse Windsor-Essex theatre community by supporting, patronizing, and encouraging other companies

8. Strive to push ourselves to improve and grow with each performance of each production

9. Work with each other, rather than over or under each other

10. Use theatre to challenge conventions, habits and assumptions by staging productions that leave audiences compelled to think, discuss, and debate long after the show ends
