BLPA Holiday Open House 2025 - Bird Outing

By Burnaby Lake Park Association

Overview

Join us on a bird outing at Burnaby Lake to see the birds that spend winter at Burnaby Lake!

Winter Birds at Burnaby Lake!

Did you know? Winter is a great time to visit Burnaby Lake and see both migratory birds that reside at the lake in the colder months as well as our year-round birds.

Guided Bird Outing

Join BLPA Volunteer leaders, Julia, Sandra and Dale as they share their knowledge and passion for birds while wandering through Burnaby Lake trails and at end up at Piper Spit. We’ll listen for calls and songs, enjoy discussion on topics such as bird habitat and plumage, and share tips.

If possible, bring a pair of binoculars that will allow you to identify and enjoy distant birds easily. We will have binoculars to lend out if you do not have your own pair.

After the outing, join in on the fun of the BLPA's annual Holiday Open House! Enjoy a warm beverage while you learn about the BLPA, what we do and how you can get involved. Decorate your own Wood Duck Cookie and test your nature knowledge with a trivia question!

We welcome everyone, including people of differing abilities, those who are Black, Indigenous or People of Color (BIPOC), and people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQIA+). We’ll be using Burnaby Lake Regional Park trails which are accessible to wheelchair-users, people who use mobility aids, or child strollers.

Please register each person's name so we have a complete check in list.

What to bring checklist:

Binoculars and a guide book if you have them, birding apps like Merlin Bird ID and eBird if you have them installed on your mobile device.

Please check the forecast and dress for the weather so you are safe and comfortable. Hats allow you to be handsfree. We recommend sturdy, warm, waterproof shoes . If sunny, wear a comfortable hat or visor to reduce the glare.

The event will take place rain (unless an atmostpheric river) or shine.
