About this event

Join the Burnaby Lake Park Association as we re-start our activities with COVID-19 protocols in place to keep you safe.

Be a champion for native plants! Join us in tackling and removing invasive species: non-native plants that have become established and replaced native species around Burnaby Lake. We will be doing maintenance work at Piper Spit where we have planted native species over the past years.

Dress for the weather, wear solid footwear for uneven or marshy terrain, and possibly trekking through brush to get to a work site. Ages 16+.

BLPA events will be limited to 10 volunteers. This is to ensure adequate distancing and that other COVID-19 safety measures can be applied to all events. All events will take place outdoors. When social distancing is not possible, face masks will be required.

When you register, you will need to confirm that:

1. You have read and understood the BLPA Safety Plan for stewardship activities

2. You will not attend if I have been travelled out of the country in the past 14 days

3. You will cancel my registration and not attend if I do not feel well.

4. You will bring my own water, snacks, pen/pencil to sign any forms, and if I have them, work gloves and tools

5. You will provide your email and telephone numbers in the event of contact tracing is required.

Please read and familarize yourself with the COVID-19 Safety Plan that you can find here.

The Burnaby Lake Park Association was founded in 1972* and has been an active volunteer organization leading stewardship activities that preserve, restore, and protect Burnaby Lake Regional Park’s ecological integrity. They connect people with nature through habitat restoration and enhancement such as their invasive species removal program Weedbusters and Nestbox Monitoring, education and outreach in the community. The BLPA is an advocate for environmentally responsible management of Burnaby Lake Regional Park to ensure it is a legacy for future generations. We work in conjunction with Metro Vancouver Regional Parks Interpreters to help people discover the great outdoors!

The BLPA acknowledges that our work is situated on the the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples. We offer immense gratitude and thanks to the nations and the Indigenous peoples who have long been protectors of the lands and the waters that house and nourish us and allow us to do this work to restore and protect Burnaby Lake Regional Park.
