Event description

Description

How can you not love B.C.’s beautiful coastline?

Did you know Vancouverites are responsible for the majority of waste found on city beaches? Cigarette butts, needles, Styrofoam, take-out containers and coffee cups are disrupting delicate ecosystems and destroying the environment.

Join the local Blue Dot team and Surfrider to help protect where we play! Beach cleanups are a fun, easy way to get involved and help keep beaches and oceans trash-free.

There will be prizes for the ugliest sweater, weirdest object found and most cigarette butts collected. We’ll be serving hot drinks, so bring a reusable mug. And we’ll be outdoors rain or shine, so come prepared!

Please register to help ensure there are enough supplies and beverages for everyone.

Safety first: Please bring gloves and closed-toed shoes. Always use a stick or trash picker to sift through the sand to avoid sharp objects. If you come across anything sharp or hazardous, mark it and tell us. Our team can handle the safe removal.

WHEN: Saturday, December 16, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

WHERE: English Bay Seawall in front of Cactus Club, 1790 Beach Ave.

WHO: People of all ages who believe in the simple but powerful idea that no matter who you are or where you live, everyone should enjoy the right to a healthy environment

HOW: We recommend public transit, carpooling or active transportation as there is minimal parking in the area

Since 2014, 160 communities — including Vancouver — recognize their residents’ basic human right to a healthy environment.
