Event description

Description

Join us for a day and a half of conversation, inspiration, education and connection for volunteer board members, non-profit leaders, big thinkers and decision-makers.

This is our 10th anniversary conference and will feature presentations, workshops and working tables with leading non-profit thinkers, strategists and political leaders including BC Seniors Advocate Isobel Mackenzie, Tk'emlups te Secwepemc Chief Rosanne Casimir, social-care champion Vikki Reynolds, key BC political leaders including Mental Health and Addictions Minister Judy Darcy, Social Development and Poverty Reduction Minister Shane Simpson, Green Party House Leader Sonia Furstenau and Liberal Opposition critic Marvin Hunt (Social Development and Poverty Reduction), the social engagement strategies of musician Jaelem Bhate, and a look at the latest social-care initiatives and emerging issues for our sector with BC Healthy Communities and United Way of the Lower Mainland. Click here for the full agenda.

Two Board Voice VIPs will also be participating in the 2019 conference - Board Voice founding executive director Doug Hayman, and Jennifer Charlesworth, who was heading up the Federation of Community Social Services when Board Voice was being born at that table and is now BC's Representative for Children and Youth.

The Board Voice conference brings together volunteer board directors and senior staff of community-based non-profits from throughout BC to network, connect, and share experiences and expertise. And if you're neither a board member nor a CEO, come along anyway and find out what our vital sector is up to!

Conference registration includes a continental breakfast, lunch and banquet-style dinner on Nov. 1, and a hot breakfast on Nov. 2. All breaks throughout the conference feature coffee, tea and light refreshments.

Participants are expected to make their own hotel arrangements. We have put together a list of neighbouring hotels in a range of prices in the FAQs below, and recommend you make your hotel booking soon to make sure rooms are available.

What hotels are within walking distance of the campus?

Choosing and booking your hotel is up to each participant, but there are a number of sites with various price options very near to Kwantlen. We suggest the following:

Four Points by Sheraton (350 metres) **Board Voice has been provided a block of 20 rooms on each of the nights of Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at this hotel, available for $149/night. This rate only holds until those rooms are gone or Oct 1, whichever comes first - so book now if this rate sounds like a deal to you!

La Quinta Inn by Wyndham (400 metres)

Hilton Vancouver Airport (1.1 kilometres)

Vancouver Airport Marriott Hotel (1.3 kilometres)

Sheraton Vancouver Airport (1.4 kilometres)

What's the refund policy?

We need to provide firm numbers for catering purposes one week before the event. Ideally, we will not have to deal with refunds past Oct. 24, but we are flexible in cases past that date should issues come up. Contact conference organizer and Board Voice executive director Jody Paterson at jpaterson@boardvoice.ca if you require a refund closer to the date of the conference.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

We will be preparing conference packages in advance that include the registrant's name, organization and affiliation. While we have no problem with a different person attending than the one named in the registration, please let us know ideally two weeks in advance so we can ensure correct identification for all participants. And of course, we'd need to hear directly from the person who registered that a different person will in fact be attending!

Am I eligible to vote at the Board Voice AGM on Nov. 2?

All member organizations are eligible to designate one person from their board of directors to vote at the AGM. These designates will have a voting card inserted in their registration package when they arrive at the conference. Before the conference, we'll be following up with attendees to determine the names of board members at the conference who will be acting as voting reps for their member organizations. Please note that associate members are not eligible to vote.

Who can I contact for further questions I have?

Contact Board Voice Executive Director Jody Paterson at jpaterson@boardvoice.ca, or administrative assistant Rosie Forth at admin@boardvoice.ca.

Where can I find a complete agenda for the conference?

Click here to link to the full agenda on our website. See you there!
