About this event
Please join Elke Porter for a fundraising book launch on Saturday, November 7th, 2020 at one of her favourite venues - the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club - for a delicious plated lunch of mixed greens, wild salmon and apple strudl while learning more about the impact of blood cancer research by renowned expert Dr. Kuchenbauer, and having the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of my brand new book!
September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month and it is important to know that About 4,600 people ages 15 to 39 will be diagnosed with NHL (non-hodgkins lymphoma) this year. It is estimated that 19,940 deaths (11,460 men and 8,480 women) from this disease will occur this year. It is the ninth most common cause of cancer death among both men and women.
On top of that "With no end in sight, the pandemic has shut down more than 600 cancer research trials as the country went into lockdown, and researchers have yet to return to their labs and resume work at full capacity. As cancer research funds get reallocated to COVID-19 studies, testing and treatment, the stalled momentum of blood cancer research will likely leave deep scars on cancer care."
This is why Elke Porter, who just recently launched her book "75 Influential German-Speakers in Western Canada" wanted to organize this fundraiser in honour of all people who are impacted by lymphoma and other types of cancer.
Besides delicious food, great company and lots of new information, there will be door prizes, books for sale and a few surprises along the way. There is limited space (only 45 seats), so please get your ticket asap to avoid disappointment.
This event is being sponsored by Brian Jessel BMW and Westcoast German News.
