Book Launch - MAKING A GLOBAL CITY by Rob Vipond
Tue, 9 May 2017, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM EDT
Friends of Clinton and those interested in Toronto public schools, and their history, are invited to a celebration of Rob Vipond's new book MAKING A GLOBAL CITY.
MAKING A GLOBAL CITY tells the remarkable story of Clinton Street Public School from 1920 to 1990. It documents the critical role that Clinton and other Toronto public schools played in integrating three successive waves of Canadian newcomers. For book details, click here.
“This is really an essay on citizenship, cloaked as the diary of a school, and flowing from the insight that a public school is an ideal lab for working out from the bottom up what Canadian citizenship means, versus dictating it from above. Rob Vipond is the ideal guide: equal parts scholar, citizen, and parent. He writes with both passion and precision.”
- Rick Salutin, playwright, novelist, journalist, and former Clinton parent
