Event description

Description

Boomerang Bags works to reduce the use of plastic bags by engaging local communities in the making of Boomerang Bags – community made using upcycled textile materials, Boomerang Bags provide a free, fun, sustainable alternative to plastic bags.

By getting involved, you are participating in a global movement that celebrates a local grassroots initiative, community building and sustainability.

Don’t know how to sew? No problem! Many tasks are required to assemble a single bag, so there’s a job for everyone. Cut, pin, iron, sew or even just show up to show your support - we could use your help.

During the three-hour workshop, we introduce you to the Boomerang Bags initiative by sharing our mission and discussing the issues surrounding plastic pollution. We’ll showcase each stage of the production line and work as a team to tackle each step. Each workshop contributes assembly stages towards the next workshop so the tasks are always changing. All levels of skills are welcome, fabric and equipment are provided and we always welcome volunteers to bring extra sewing machines!

Lead by marine biologist, environmentalist, yoga instructor & holistic nutrition, topics such as environmental impacts on healthy living and lifestyles are always on the table.
