About this event

Winter got us cooking up a little something to keep the good vibes flowing. In this event, Old School communities are competing against each other to win the Community Cup. An entire community, and not a person, wins the Cup. Communities get points for their performance in the Swiss, spice and their use of their Community card (more on this later).

If you are not part of a Canadian community, that’s okay. You will still be able to play with other outsiders as a community.

Event specifics

  • One-day, webcam event, played over Discord. You must join the Canadian Discord to participate.
  • 6 rounds of Swiss. No Top 8
  • Entry fee: $15
  • Ruleset: Boreal; Proxies allowed.
  • Start time: 1pm EST
  • 1 hour break after Round 4

The winning community picks the charity

Before the tournament, communities decide what Canadian charity they're playing for.

At the end of the tournament, the charity chosen by the community with the highest score receives all entry fees and raffle proceeds. (Charity subject to review by organizers. Please choose something with an online donation link.)

The organizers will identify a national Canadian charity in the event the outsiders win.

Community scoring

At the end of the tournament, Community scores are determined by adding:

  • 1 point per members' match win
  • 1 point per Community card in members' main decks (more on this, below)
  • 1 point per members' spice vote (more on this, below)

These points go towards their community’s score. If you aren’t part of the 6 Canadian Old School communities represented, your points go towards the outsiders.

Deck construction: Community cards

Different cards are assigned to each community to represent them. The more they're used by their members, the more points a community gets. For each copy of a Community card you run, your community gets as many points as if you won a match. Normal deck construction rules apply, so you can play up to 4 of your Community's card.

To maintain variety, there is a twist. Mana spent to play your Community card can be used as though it was of any color. Your card does not change colour. So your black Community card can be cast with white mana, and is affected by Bad Moon, Circle of Protection:Black, and Lifeforce.

Prizes

Prize cards will be mailed to a representative from each community to decide how to best get cards to their members.

Participation prizes

Each player will get a stamped Unlimited Forest. Each Forest will reflect how well your community did.

  • First place: golden, stamped Unlimited forests.
  • Second place: silver, stamped Unlimited forests.
  • Third place: bronze, stamped Unlimited forests.
  • Everyone else: stamped Unlimited forest.

Swiss prize

The player with the best record in the Swiss will receive a stamped Beta Forest commemorating their victory.

Spice prize

The player with the most spice votes will receive a stamped Beta Forest commemorating their brew.

Bounty prizes

The player with the most wins versus specific communities will get a prize card (Illustrated by Derfington) commemorating their achievement.

  • Wolf Hunter
  • Bear Brawler
  • Citizen Slayer
  • Chaos Queller
  • Goblin Buster
  • Rat Exterminator

The organizers will make an effort to make sure people from the same community don’t play each other.

Bonus prizes

Mario (@merhans) has graciously donated additional prize cards for Team Outsiders. (Thanks Mario!)

We have a pile of cool stuff to give away. At the end of the event, we will draw names for each of the items. If you win, they will be shipped to you or your community representative. These items are donated by players and organizers. We would appreciate anything you'd like to contribute, such as cards, swag, or even custom alters.

How to get entries
