Description of Shows:
(Untitled) Boxes: is an intergenerational drama that explores the lives and relationships of the Berberian family. Anahit, the matriarch and cultural keeper of knowledge, is in her late 80’s and living with Alzheimer’s and Cancer. She has entered the last days of her life, and her illness has progressed to the point that she needs additional care. For the first time in many years, her only daughter and three grandchildren find themselves in the family home again. As secrets are revealed and old family conflicts surface, we get to glimpse this family’s fight to grow closer to one another in the face of great loss and the myriad experiences that threaten to pull them apart.
Mixed Vegetable: Where do you fit when your brown face is alone in a sea of L’Oreal blond number 5, and you sit alone at lunch because the white kids say your food smells funny? Where is home? Where is culture? Mixed Vegetable is a one woman show in development, written and performed by Anoushka Ratnarajah, exploring what it means to be queer, femme and mixed race growing up in a small white town in Western Canada. Delving into histories of migration, displacement and diaspora, and using a mix of monologue, song, and stand up comedy, Mixed Vegetable asks what it means to be "authentically" rooted in culture and how to maintain ties in a world of assimilation.
