Brave Conversations in SoTL Series #1: Students as Partners as a Disruptive Force for Change in SoTL
This speakers’ series is a collaborative offering between the Mokakiiks Centre for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning at Mount Royal University and the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning at UCalgary. We will bring together an international slate of scholars whose work centers around critical approaches to themes of epistemic justice, students as knowers, and threshold experiences in higher education. Each session will include opportunities for discussion and exploration around expanding the boundaries and creating opportunities for novel forms of teaching and learning research and scholarship.
The first in the series, Delivering disruption: Positioning student-faculty partnerships as a political act in the academy, will feature Dr. Cherie Woolmer, Assistant Professor and Canada Research Chair (SoTL), Mokakiiks Centre for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, Mount Royal University.
Dr. Cherie Woolmer is Assistant Professor and Canada Research Chair (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning), based in the Mokakiiks Centre for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Her research program focuses on student-faculty partnerships in higher education, which is informed by critical pedagogy, socio-cultural approaches to change, and the impact of pedagogical partnerships on institutional culture. Her recent publications focus on approaches to co-creating curriculum with students and issues of equity and risk in partnerships.
She co-facilitates Mount Royal’s SoTL Development Program, runs workshops and book studies on issues relating to pedagogical partnerships and SoTL, and offers consultations with faculty and students engaged in SoTL.
Look for the second and third parts of the series in mid-March and mid-April 2023.
