Event Details

Multimedia surrounds us, and we have the power to shape our world through creating and sharing photography on social media like Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook. All University of Alberta students are invited to attend this exciting interactive workshop on how to promote diversity and inclusion through multimedia and photography.

This workshop is a collaboration between the United Nations Association in Canada’s Multimedia and Multiculturalism Programme and the University of Alberta's Office of Safe Disclosure & Human Rights in support of the upcoming #breakingstereotypes student photo contest, launching on October 7, 2013. For more information on the contest, please visit the Office of Safe Disclosure & Human Rights website.

Facilitators will engage participants in discussions about how human rights applies to everyone on a daily basis and how they contribute to making safer, more respectful and inclusive communities on campus and in Edmonton. Participants will be empowered to use everyday communication tools, including phone cameras, social media and blogs, in a variety of ways to break common stereotypes, fight discrimination and have their voice heard.

The workshop is free and refreshments will be provided. Seating is limited to 50 participants, so register early to avoid disappointment! For more information, please contact Vivian Giang at vivian.giang@unac.org or 780-492-1436.

This workshop is presented in partnership with the University of Alberta's Office of Safe Disclosure & Human Rights and is sponsored by Citizenship & Immigration Canada and the Alberta Human Rights Education and Multiculturalism Fund.
