HERBAL JUSTICE

Autonomy-Equity- Access

Indigenous peoples have been using plants for medicinal purposes for thousands of years. Plants and people are intrinsically connected and are an important source of nutrition as they play a key role in our health & wellness. Medicinal herbs or plants have been known to be an important source of therapeutic spiritual and curative aids. They are part of a system that harnesses the way of life of all Indigenous Peoples and thus are gems within our natural resources.

In our diaspora throughout the 'Americas' how do we create autonomy and self-determination of these natural resources? How do we enterprise and trade our herbal medicine? How do we make our herbal medicines equitably accessible in this regulated market? How do we position and structure our botanical resources as a socio-economic catalyst to enrich and protect our communities?

To canvas all of this and more join us for another one of our monthly 'Bridging The Gap Series'. In this series aptly named, Herbal Justice we explore with our panelists the importance of safeguarding indigenous herbal medicines and practices. If lost on future generations these inputs may be irreplaceable despite recent trends, technological and cultural appropriation and a booming monopoly.
