Event description

Description

Environmental Assessments over the past 15 years have changed and are not always black and white. Engineering judgement plays a major role in today’s projects and the Project Manager is made accountable for the findings and outcomes of the project.

During the Long Range Planning process, traffic modelling was the key factor for identifying when a roadway would become congested and would require widening be a certain date. Working backwards from that date, typically 10 years, the Environmental Assessment would be programed to start.

The traffic modelling (high level) is done for the whole Region and makes many assumptions for all roads based on the future growth of population and employment. The traffic generated at locations of growth are then distributed into the roadway network, triggering which roads need to be studied for future widening.

"Bringing the Corridor back into the Community" will count towards the OACETT CPD program as a partial (2 hour) fulfillment of the full-day (6-8 hours) informal/self-directed study under the Technical Knowledge category.

For supporting documentation, members are required to keep a copy of the certificate that will be given out at the end of the presentation and prepare a written summary of what learned.

Contact information for general questions regarding OACETT CPD: send an email to cpd@oacett.org or call Sherrie at 416.621.9621, x234.
