About this event
Infill Development in Edmonton Association (IDEA) and the City of Edmonton have partnered to offer a four-year Expedited Infill Pilot to improve knowledge of infill development, encourage high-standard construction practices, design basics and improve communication practices.
The pilot consists of a Builder Education Program and an Expedited Infill Review Process. Participants who successfully complete the education program will qualify for expedited development permit review timelines for eligible Development Permit applications. There are 4 courses that must be taken and successfully passed in order to qualify:
- Design 101
- Development Permit Application & Review
- Infill Best Practices for Construction
- Communication and Community Relations
Plus Special Information Session: Guaranteed Review Stream for Building Permit
There will be a special information session to introduce a “Guaranteed Review Stream for Building Permit” hosted by the Safety Codes Officer from the City of Edmonton. This information session will be available to all participants who have previously taken the Builder Education Program.
The Guaranteed Review Stream will ensure your building permit application is assigned within 24-48 to a dedicated Safety Codes Officer who operates as a subject matter expert. This Safety Codes Officer will review your building permit application for completeness and if all required information has been provided and is deemed correct your building permit could be issued in as little as 15 days from the date it is released from Development. This pilot will focus on the same building types alraedy in the Builder Education Program. Current timelines for Building Permit is 30 days. Guaranteed target is 15 days, 15-day savings.

- Special Information Session: Guaranteed Review Stream for Building Permit - June 27 - 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
- Infill Best Practices for Construction - June 28- 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
- Communication and Community Relations - June 29 - 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
*All courses include an exam at the end of each course to test the knowledge obtained. Except for Day 3 - Special Information Session for Building Permit.
Which permits qualify to be expedited?
Class A Development Permits for Single-Family, Semi-Detached, and Single-Family with Secondary Suite.

How much time are the permits expedited by?
- Single-Detached Development: Current timelines for Development Permit is 57 days. Expedited target is 20 days, 37-day savings.
- Semi-Detached Development: Current timelines for Development Permit is 43 days. Expedited target is 20 days, 23-day savings.
- Single-Detached with Secondary Suite: Current timelines for Development Permit is 45 days. Expedited target is 20 days, 25-day savings.
