Description
Looking for practical strategies to help build a stronger quality of life in your community? Need more future-ready leaders, multi-sector collaboration, citizen responsibility, and innovation? This community building workshop will be applicable to those working or volunteering in a formal or informal community leadership role who are seeking integrated approaches that will attract and retain others while at the same time fostering foster self-reliance and resilience. Ultimately it is about supporting staff, citizens, and elected officials to strengthen their capacity for collaborating and partnering with other stakeholders to ensure stronger, healthier, and more vibrant communities.
Upon completion of this workshop participants will be better able to:
- Embrace the importance of being future-ready.
- Articulate what needs to be changed.
- Demystify the how-to’s required for change and growth.
- Describe community, its benefits, characteristics, and importance.
- Explain why we need to do more to legitimize community.
- Differentiate strategies used for building community.
Instruction Bio
Brenda Herchmer is a passionate community builder and the owner of Grassroots Enterprises and a social enterprise called Campus for Communities. A speaker, trainer, and community development coach, she is also a blogger and the author of three books. Previously she has worked for Alberta Recreation and Parks Association as the Director of ACE Communities, the City of Niagara Falls, and was a Professor at Niagara College where she also founded and managed the Niagara Centre for Community Leadership. Brenda has been acknowledged as a YWCA Woman of Distinction in Training and Education and won the 2016 Brock University Faculty of Applied Sciences Distinguished Graduate Award.
