Building A Successful Private Counselling Practice

Learn from a panel of Counselling Therapists with over 76 years of combined experience

As a Counsellor, how can you find your niche, market your services and build your brand? This workshop will cover everything from finding office space to choosing a name, developing an online presence (including website and social media marketing) and creating compelling digital content. How much should you charge? How can you apply for contracts (government and private) or establish a not-for-profit organization? How do you become a public speaker? TedX Talk? Bestselling Author? Columnist? Teacher? Learn from experienced professionals who have built their own successful private practices sharing their mistakes, their successes and the lessons they’ve learned along the way.

Dr. Saira Sabzaali is a Transpersonal Psychotherapist with a PhD in Transpersonal Psychology. She has run her own private practice for over 10 years and offers motivational education and training seminars for corporate and not-for-profit clients, with a special interest in team building, leadership development, and burnout. Passionate about a client-centred approach to counselling, she knows that clients can benefit tremendously from short-term, intensive therapy in a safe, sacred, and compassionate environment. Dr. Sabzaali has delivered two TedX talks and lives in Surrey with her husband and two kids.

Dr. Susannah-Joy Schuilenberg, PsyD, RPC, MPCC-S, DAAETS, ACS, is the co-founder and Director of Clinical Services at William & Associates, and offers therapy, locally and globally, to individuals struggling with unresolved trauma. She specializes in complex trauma (C-PTSD) and has extensive experience in providing therapy to soldiers, refugees, and victims of war and/or human rights abuses. Dr. Schuilenberg provides clinical supervision to practising professionals and serves as a consultant to fellow professionals. She travels to teach workshops and master classes to fellow mental health professionals in remote locations and presents regularly at conferences around the world.

William (Bill) Schuilenberg, MA, RPC, MPCC, CSAT-C brings an unusual body of life experience to his therapy process. A former cabinetmaker with a successful custom millwork company in Alberta for 25 years, he was invalided out of his trade by illness in 2001. After a period of recovery, he went back to school to earn his counselling credentials and worked in private practice in Kelowna until he joined his wife, Dr. Schuilenberg, in Kuwait in 2008. They returned to Canada in 2015 and opened their own psychology practice, William & Associates, where he is also the Executive Director.

Rosemary Fromson, RPC, MPCC, MPCC-S is a Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC) and the current National President for the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA). At age 45, she returned to college to become a Registered Professional Counsellor. Rosemary has worked with many traumatized people, as well as extensive work in the addiction field. She began her private practice, Illuminating Counselling Services in 1998. Rosemary is a lead Subject Matter Expert/Curriculum Developer in Stenberg College’s Counselling Therapist Diploma program.

Gary Thandi, MSW, RSW has nearly twenty years’ experience in counselling/social work within the mental health, addictions, and domestic violence fields, including direct client therapy, clinical supervision, program development, workshop facilitation, and qualitative research. He is the Executive Director of Moving Forward Family Services, a non-profit organization providing accessible and affordable counselling to residents of Metro Vancouver.
