Building and Learning Together

KidsAbility™ Centre for Child Development is pleased to offer a new parent involement opportunity through their Autism Services Program!

Building and Learning Together” will provide you with weekly workshops, supported with hands-on coaching. Using the Behaviour Skills Training Model of instruction, modeling, behavioral rehearsal, and feedback, we will support you and your family in learning strategies to apply with your child on a daily basis. Together we will identify specific goals correlating to the workshop series while incorporating your child’s interests and your priority goals.

Workshop topics will include:

  • Reinforcement and Pairing
  • Functions of Behaviour
  • How to Increase Positive Behaviour (while decreasing less desirable behaviour)
  • How to Enhance Communication,
  • Use of Visual Supports to Increase Independence
  • Developing Play Skills

At the end of each workshop you will receive a skill practice sheet outlining what was discussed, and recommendations for practical ways to put your learning into everyday practice.

We look forward to building and learning with you to increase you and your child’s success!

Sessions occur Monday evenings from 6-730pm in Kitchener. By registering for the series you are committing to attending all six workshop sessions.

KidsAbility is pleased to be able to offer child care for this learning opportunity! When registering for this event please ensure that you select one child care ticket per child.


FAQs

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Please contact your Family Support Worker, or the Autism Supervisor supporting your child.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No need to bring a printed ticket to the event.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

This training runs for 6 sessions, each session builds on the previous information. It is highly recommended that the same people attend each week. If you wish to bring another primary caregiver to a session please let the organizer know. We are happy to include multiple members from the same family.

I am a community member and would like to attend ?

We will be opening up Community Partner tickets once we have given families an oppportunity to attend. Childcare is not available for community partner tickets.


Do we need to pay for childcare?

KidsAbility is pleased to announce that through the generous support of CIBC that we have been able to provide free childcare for families attending this workshop. This support is limited and will only apply to KidsAbility Autism events listed with Childcare Tickets.
