United Way is pleased to partner with Priti Shah, of PRAXIS Conflict Consulting for a workshop that will contribute to your knowledge and understanding of effective board bylaws and board member handbooks.

Workshop Overview

Every organized group needs Bylaws to ensure that members and leaders understand the rules under which they agree to operate, rules that need to be refreshed from time to time as the environment changes and the group evolves. Are you clear on why you need Bylaws? What needs to be included in contemporary Bylaws? Have you examined your Bylaws lately to assess their strengths and weaknesses? Are they written in plain language? Are your Bylaws included in your board manual? What else is in your Board manual (handbook) to help board members fulfill their duties and responsibilities?

Participants will gain knowledge in the following areas:

  • Understand the function and purpose of bylaws;
  • Identify the essential elements of board bylaws;
  • Recognize the strengths and weaknesses of your current bylaws;
  • Develop an action plan to strengthen your bylaws;
  • Understand the function and purpose of a board member handbook;
  • Identify the essential components of a board member handbook; and
  • Develop an action plan to strengthen or create a customized board member handbook.
