Description

Rural Response for Healthy Children is pleased to bring Toronto-based New Leaf Foundation to Huron County to present their Building Blocks of Resilience professional development training to area teachers.

Ontario Trillium Foundation is supporting the regular cost of the training in order to provide educators from AMDSB and HPCDSB at a discounted rate of $50 per person, includes day-long workshop, lunch and refreshments.

When students are dealing with toxic stress, their capacities to learn, make decisions and build pro-social relationships are severely inhibited. In a cyclical environment where educators may feel overworked, stressed, and at risk of vicarious trauma, the mental and emotional health of all are compromised.

Training Objectives:
- Address the needs of whole schools by supporting both staff and youth
- Cultivate an understanding of how stress and traumatic stress aect bodies, brains and behaviours
- Develop strategies for educators’ self care, emotional regulation and resilience utilizing movement, breath and awareness (MBA) based tools
- Prepare educators to deliver short MBA practices in the classroom to support students

Since 2007, New Leaf Foundation has been a leader in Canada oering programming designed to support the social-emotional wellbeing and resilience of young people in marginalized and underserved communities where barriers to resources o-en exist. The organization currently oers approximately 30 programs in schools, custody facilities and low-income communities in Toronto and southern Ontario. This training was developed by Laura Sygrove, who has led the organization since its inception and holds an MSW degree, along with Julia Gibran, who as worked with New Leaf since 2009 and holds B.Ed and MSW degrees.
