Cybersecurity from the start

Public & private sector recognised the critical role of cybersecurity in today’s digital reality. Corporations and government are taking strategic steps to ensure that cybersecurity comes to the forefront of decision-making and business management in all sectors, especially with critical infrastructure operators. Strong cyber security is not just critical for these players; it is essential for the sustainability of Poland’s growing economy. In comparison to government institutions and larger corporations, SMEs often do not have the knowledge or resources to adequately train their employees, update their infrastructure, or to have their own incident response teams. At the same time, SMEs are often providers in governmental supply chains, including critical infrastructure. Start-ups and SMEs increasingly focus their development on business models with a strong digital presence, including e-Commerce platforms, or development of online software/applications to transfer critical information. The direct impact of incorporating cybersecurity as the basis of such solutions cannot be underestimated and it is crucial that, as they are growing their companies, start-ups and SMEs consider cybersecurity from day one.

The case-studies presented will help to gain new views on how Polish government, industry and start-ups/SMEs can protect their economic vitality, intellectual property, financial and accounting records, employment and client files, as well as other data which will increasingly determine their security and success. All players must develop and implement strategies and tactics to keep their critical data secure. What strategies and tactics can SMEs employ to most effectively secure their cyber-businesses without stifling growth and innovation? What are the best current practices?
